Minute To Win It

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

Camp completed an awesome Wednesday this week with an all new evening activity based on the hit TV show Minute To Win It.  All of our cabins and day campers participated in a race to win a million dollars taking part in a ton on games of skill.  Congratulations to Cabin 3 for winning the contest.

Notes from the Summer Program Director

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

Each summer, I enjoy starting the first session by sitting down and reading the History of Camp Minikani compiled by John Bolger. This history covers the first 75 years of Minikani’s history, and it details the establishment of camp as well as how many of the current programs got started. I know that many important people contributed to this document, but in talking with John, we had hoped to update it to the current programs as well as add more details to the historical events. In the back of the document, it traces the directors from the first year of camp. This list ends at 1966, and it also does not include any Administrative Staff positions after 1945. There are some documents here at camp that detail aspects of Minikani’s staff, but I was hoping to compile all this information into one single document.

There are so many wonderful stories from alumni that I have heard over the years. Many of them discuss programming and the staff, while others are just fond memories of events and experiences. Compiling the historical events alongside the camper/counselor memories could really get to the heart of whom and what Minikani is. Feel free to begin emailing me (blsiegel@gmail.com) with any stories and/or memories that you would like to add to this updated camp history.

Explorer Update

Sunny skies at base camp! Hudson Bay and Wild Wolf returned from their overnight canoe with great stories AND nobody tipped! Both groups are currently on their day hike through Rhinelander.

Peshtigo and Quetico endured three groups tipping and kept their morale high as they made mac n’ cheese over a fire and slept on the island!
